About David Cole
Born in Monrovia, Liberia, and raised in both Washington and Massachusetts, David K.B. Cole brings a rich and multifaceted background to the TPH Academy team. He attended Williams College, where he excelled as a standout goalie for the Ephmen while simultaneously majoring in studio art and performing as a drummer in several bands. After graduating in 1984, David relocated to New York City and officially launched his coaching career at the Joe Espinosa Sports Club in 1991. Subsequently, he spent 11 years in the NHL leading the Fan Development Departments for both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Atlanta Thrashers.
In 2009, Coach Cole moved to Minneapolis, where he dedicated 15 years to coaching at various high schools as both a head coach and a specialized goalie coach. During this period, he also worked extensively with youth hockey associations and contributed his expertise to the program at St. Olaf College. In September 2024, he joined TPH Academy and the Nashville Jr. Predators as the Player Development Coach and Goaltending Coach. Furthermore, David is a Level 5 USA Hockey coach and a retired tenured official, providing him with a comprehensive 360-degree view of the game.
Beyond his on-ice contributions, David is an active and influential member of USA Hockey’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Because of his commitment to the growth and accessibility of the sport, he remains a vital advocate for student-athletes from all walks of life. He and his wife, Janet, currently reside in West Nashville, while their daughter, Marisa, serves as a nurse in Orlando. Ultimately, his combination of professional league experience and deep roots in player development ensures that Nashville’s goaltenders receive world-class mentorship.
