Wade Russell has called hockey his home since he learned to skate at age three. During high school, he participated in the Leadership and Exercise Athletics Program (LEAP). There, he began applying athletic skills to his everyday life. Later, he attended Western University to study Kinesiology and Sport Management.

Since then, Wade has worked within the local hockey community at TPH Academy. In 2022, he completed his Master’s degree at Michigan State University. During his studies, he focused on sport pedagogy and skill acquisition. He also explored psychosocial aspects of sport and positive youth development.

Currently, Wade is earning his Hockey Canada Certified Skills Coach designation. Additionally, he recently joined the Western University Men’s Ice Hockey team as an Assistant Coach. In this role, he supports athletes in both sports and academics.

Ultimately, Wade is passionate about using sports to inform future decision-making. He uses best practices and first principles to shape the next generation. Specifically, his interests include talent development and hockey IQ. He also focuses on coach education and life skills transfer.
