About Shelbi Hurley
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, Shelbi has always been passionate about athletics and working with children. Raised playing sports for her local YMCA, Shelbi discovered a passion for working with children at a young age when she became a youth sports counselor and swim instructor at the YMCA in middle school. She would go on to study Physical Education at Springfield College in Western Massachusetts and began her career in education as a Physical Education teacher at a small private school in her hometown of Northampton.
In 1999 Shelbi and her husband, Brian moved west to Texas, then southern California, and finally settling in Arizona in 2006 to raise their two daughters, Grace (16) and Lily (15). After staying home to raise their girls for several years, Shelbi returned to education in 2014 as an elementary school classroom teacher. She spent the last ten years teaching third and then fourth grade. However, sports have remained a very central part of Shelbi’s life. Both her daughters are goalies. Grace has played elite competitive soccer for 10 years at various clubs around the valley. Lily, who found a passion for hockey 9 years ago, has been an Arizona Kachina for the last five seasons. Lily is also a student-athlete at TPH – Phoenix.
Shelbi brings with her decades of experience working with children, a passion for athletics, and desire to help student-athletes achieve both athletically and academically. Helping to form hearts and minds in truth and virtue has been not only what called Shelbi to education at an early age, but what has kept her in education and returning to education after all these years.
