Ryan Thompson Named Head of Hockey for RELM Sports Academy Powered by TPH
TPH Academy is thrilled to announce the appointment of Kingston, Ontario resident, Ryan Thompson, as Head of Hockey for RELM Sports Academy Powered by TPH. With his extensive playing and coaching background, and player-first leadership approach, Thompson is set to build a strong foundation for student-athlete development and will bring a heightened level of excellence to the program.

Thompson's role benefits from his exceptional experience as a player, coach, and referee. During his time in the Ontario Hockey League, Thompson was named Assistant Captain of the Guelph Storm Hockey Club, earning the Leadership Award in 2003, Community Involvement, Athletics and Academics Award in 2003, and Campbell’s Soup Academic Achievement Award in the years 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2002-2003. Also during his time with the Storm, Thompson was a member of the 2002 MasterCard Memorial Cup host team. He also played in the SPHL with the Jacksonville Barracudas and was a USports player for the Royal Military College of Canada men’s hockey team.
"I am honoured to serve as Head of Hockey and I look forward to aiding in the growth of RELM Sports Academy Powered by TPH,” shared Thompson. “The TPH academic model provides an unparalleled opportunity for our athletes to unlock their potential in the classroom, allowing us, as coaches and mentors, to work with them individually on the ice in an environment that emphasizes a player-first mentality. I look forward to helping hockey players from all over Eastern Ontario maximize their potential on and off the ice.”
As a coach, Thompson has dedicated his career to developing the next generation of hockey players, emphasizing the importance of preparation and attention to detail. His background includes coaching the Niagara Falls Canucks within the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, as well as at the Royal Military College of Canada, St. Catharines AAA, Kingston Area Minor Hockey, Greater Kingston AAA, and RELM Sports Programs.
Thompson also served as a linesman in the Ontario Hockey Association for two seasons, refereeing OJHL, PJHL, and USports games. His appointment as Head of Hockey at RELM Sports Academy Powered by TPH is a testament to his exceptional coaching abilities and dedication to the sport.
Thompson's player-first philosophy revolves around putting players at the center of their own development. Leading by example, he fosters an environment where players work hard to establish goals, create a plan to reach them, and receive encouragement in their efforts – and have fun in the process.
