Justin Dehmer to Lead at TPH Academy Des Moines
TPH Academy is thrilled to announce that teacher, author, and three-time Iowa State High School Baseball Championship-Winning Coach, Justin Dehmer, has been named Director & Head of Academics for TPH Academy Des Moines, which will be housed at the all-new Gregg Young Sports Complex in Norwalk, IA. Dehmer brings an extensive blend of academic and athletic leadership to student-athletes across Central Iowa who will take part in TPH’s Study-Train-Play experience starting in 2024-2025.

“On behalf of all of us in TPH, we are proud to welcome Justin Dehmer to the team,” shared TPH Academy CEO, Alan Keeso. “From the onset, it was important for us to identify a selfless, student-athlete-focused leader who will relate to and connect with families from Central Iowa, specifically those who entrust us with supporting their child’s growth. Justin is that individual. He has proven experience helping student-athletes discover their potential on the field and in the classroom throughout his career, as well as through his various leadership ventures with the 1-Pitch Warrior project. We are beyond excited to have him lead us in Des Moines.”
Dehmer is presently in his 17th year as an Instructional Coach and Math Teacher at Southeast Polk High School in Altoona, IA. During his two decades in the classroom, Dehmer became one of the most recognizable names in Iowa high school athletics, leading the Boys Varsity baseball program at Martensdale-St. Mary’s High School to three straight state titles in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Within that span, Dehmer helped guide the Blue Devils baseball program to a national record 88-game win streak and also earned Iowa High School Baseball Association Coach of the Year all three seasons along the way.
Following this incredible run, the former collegiate baseball player founded 1-Pitch Warrior, an online mindset and measurement curriculum course. Dehmer now also serves as a team and coach consultant, motivational speaker, and published author, and is able to leverage this expertise to aid TPH Academy student-athletes and families by sharing his valuable experience and perspective.
While helping student-athletes to maximize their potential on the field has been a large part of Dehmer’s life in leadership, the Grand Canyon University graduate says his devotion to supporting students to excel in the classroom and in life has been even more rewarding. For that reason, he is thrilled to play a positive role in impacting the lives of the student-athletes who choose to supercharge their development by attending TPH Academy Des Moines.
“The D.N.A. of TPH is a perfect match for me. And, as a Norwalk, Iowa resident, I know it’s going to be a perfect fit for our area,” shared Dehmer. “TPH Academy provides the extra advantage that today’s top student-athletes desire. I will do everything in my power to give our student-athletes that upper hand through customized learning, holistic development opportunities, and of course, supporting Sportsplex West and D1’s coaches in their sport-training efforts. With Sportsplex and D1 focused on the athlete, the TPH team and I honed in on maximizing the student, and all of us working together to grow the person, student-athletes in our area are going to have every opportunity to maximize their potential.”
