Former Michigan Tech Hockey Captain and Coach Named TPH Detroit Head of Hockey
TPH is thrilled to announce Ray Brice as Head of Hockey for its Detroit Academy and all of its Total Package Hockey programs. A former collegiate and professional player, Brice joins TPH Detroit after spending the 2024-2025 season as a Division I College Assistant Coach at his alma mater, Michigan Tech University.
“I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to serve as Head of Hockey for TPH in Detroit, and continue my journey in my home state of Michigan,” Brice shared. “The TPH Academy and Total Package Hockey brands represent everything I believe in. I look forward to working alongside the great staff at TPH Detroit to make the greatest possible on and off-ice impact on all of our hockey players and student-athletes.“
A former gritty, hard-nosed power forward with a high hockey IQ, Brice’s playing experience has helped position him to supercharge TPH Detroit’s commitment to developing Intelligent, Adaptable, Confident hockey players, consistent with TPH’s Hockey Development Model. His hockey journey began at his hometown of Houghton High School, before he embarked on two years of competing at the Junior A level. While a member of the NAHL’s New Jersey Titans, Brice made his commitment to Michigan Tech, playing all four seasons and serving as captain of the Huskies in his senior year. After graduation, Brice spent four years at the professional level in the ECHL, SPHL, and European pro circuit.
Beyond playing, Ray entrenched himself in hockey instruction, starting in his teens, serving in both support and on-ice leadership roles, before founding his own company, BRIce Hockey. His experience teaching the game to players of all ages and abilities dates back nearly 10 years.
“I was really blessed to have the opportunity to teach the game to young players while playing it at the same time,” Brice added. “I’ve always tried to think like a player while preparing and leading like a coach. I am grateful for all of my experiences, especially this past year on the coaching staff at ‘Tech.’ I’m pumped to take everything I have learned on my journey and channel it to helping our hockey players and student-athletes develop in and beyond the game.”
For TPH Detroit Director Dwayne Norris, there’s one separating factor that draws him to Brice, and it isn’t just playing level or individual statistics. As Norris puts it, Brice’s track record of leadership paired with his passion for player development make him the ideal fit for this role as TPH Detroit readies for the 2025-2026 hockey season and Academy year.
“Ray’s resume and track record embody leadership,” Norris stated. “He has been a captain at nearly every level he has played at, including Division I. His former coaches all considered him a student of the game, and everyone we spoke with referenced what a high-character teammate Ray was. His path will be inspiring to our TPH Detroit hockey players and student-athletes, his knowledge of the game will be magnetic, and his enthusiasm will be infectious. We can’t wait for Ray to meet our TPH Detroit hockey players, student-athletes, and families.”
Total Package Hockey Detroit programming registration is live, and applications for the 2025-2026 Academy year are now open.
