Former Flyer Paul Healey Joins TPH Academy Philadelphia Team

TPH Academy is proud to announce that former Philadelphia Flyer and Philadelphia Phantom Paul Healey has been named Director of Hockey for TPH Academy Philadelphia and Method Ice Hockey. No stranger to TPH, Healey, a veteran of 15 professional hockey seasons, makes the move north after spending the past three years as Director and Head of Hockey for TPH Academy Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He joins fellow Directors Fran Mackin (Operations and Programming) and Jimmy Law (Sports Performance), recently announced Head of Hockey Ray Brice, and TPH Academy Philadelphia’s great line-up of student, athlete, and player-first team members.

“This is a tremendous day for TPH Academy Philadelphia, Method Ice Hockey, and our wonderful families,” shared TPH Academy CEO Alan Keeso. “We’re extremely fortunate that Paul will return to Philly, a part of the country he refers to as his ‘second home.’ Paul is passionate about the move, passionate about the game of hockey, and, most importantly, is extremely passionate about using sports to teach life skills to student-athletes of all ages and abilities. He is a valuable TPH team member, is as genuine and humble as they come, and as families will soon find out, Philadelphia is absolutely where he, his wife Megan, and son Reilly want to be.”

Families wishing to learn more about TPH or its Method Ice Hockey programming offerings are invited to stop by IceLine and meet Paul face-to-face later this week. Coach Healey will be on-site at the facility on Thursday, May 16. To arrange a time to meet Paul one-on-one, click here to contact Paul. Ready to start your journey towards elite? Healey, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, a graduate of the WHL, and a draft pick of the Flyers, was part of four National Hockey League organizations during an extensive playing career from 1992 to 2010. He captured championships twice, first as a member of the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms in 1998 and then, ten years later, while playing overseas in Slovenia with Jesenice. A three-time captain with the AHL’s St. John’s Maple Leafs, Lowell Lock Monsters, and San Antonio Rampage, Healey concluded his professional career in 2010, having totaled over 1,000 games played. Since then, Paul has dedicated himself to youth coaching, on-ice hockey instruction, and Academy leadership. The year 2024-2025 will mark his fourth as a member of the TPH Team and allow him to bring the knowledge he has gained with TPH in Fort Lauderdale, FL, to the student-athletes and families within TPH Philadelphia’s vast ecosystem.

“This really is a bit of a homecoming for me, and I can’t express the excitement I have right now on so many levels,” Healey shared. “The three years I spent training, playing, and living in Philadelphia were some of the best years of my life on both a professional and personal level. I love the city and surrounding areas, the hockey environment, and the straightforward nature of the people. The location, facility, and true one-stop shop we are building at IceLine make this next chapter very exciting for the Healey family. My wife, son, and I can’t wait to get to Philadelphia and make it home again.”

While all TPH Philadelphia programs will benefit from Paul’s knowledge, passion, and leadership, his experience leading TPH’s Fort Lauderdale Academy will pave the way for TPH to deliver great value to the founding families who register for its Philadelphia Academy, set to open at IceLine for the 2024-2025 school year. As the ultimate holistic development experience, TPH Academy combines sport training with a completely individualized, customized education model and vast opportunities for student-athlete mentorship and personal development.
