Christy Rutherford to Lead TPH Academy Kansas City

TPH is thrilled to announce the appointment of Christy Rutherford, a former coach, teacher, education manager, and career center assistant director, as Director and Head of Academics for TPH Academy Kansas City. As a hockey mom and parent of a student-athlete who will be attending TPH Academy KC in the fall, Rutherford brings 24 years of diverse student-centered professional experience to her role. Her personal connection to TPH Academy as a parent underscores her commitment to its success.

On Wednesday, July 24th, TPH Academy Kansas City will host an exclusive event at Dave and Busters on Village West Parkway in Kansas City from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.  All those interested in meeting Christy Rutherford and learning more about TPH are invited to join Christy and TPH Chief Operating Officer Francis Anzalone over appetizers for an engaging evening filled with insight, information, and excitement for prospective Founding Families. Registration is required at the link here.

“I am beyond excited to lead TPH Academy and have the opportunity to shape a memorable experience for not only our Founding Families, but the many families for years to come,” shared Rutherford.  “As a proud parent of a committed TPH-KC student-athlete, my husband and I were drawn to this opportunity for our son because of TPH’s commitment to delivering a customized academic and holistic development experience.  I look forward to joining the sports leaders from within the Bluhawk ecosystem to create a world-class Academy experience that prepares student-athletes from across the KC metro area for success academically, athletically, and personally.”

Rutherford is certainly no stranger to preparing student-athletes for both academic and personal success, having spent the last two and a half years serving as the Education Manager for DECA, a nonprofit organization that prepares students for success in real-world business and leadership settings.  In this role, Christy ensured that all DECA programs aligned with national standards and shaped the curriculum to prepare students for real-world success.

Christy’s extensive teaching experience, which spans sixteen years, two states, and multiple school systems, adds to a deep resume filled with experiences that student-athletes who attend TPH Academy Kansas City will benefit from. Coupled with two additional years of experience serving as Assistant Director of Cass Career Center in Harrisonville, MO, Christy has not only spent her career mentoring students, but she also brings the unique perspective of guiding the teachers who are tasked with impacting the students under their direction on a daily basis.

Christy, a resident of Raymore, MO, holds teaching certifications in both Missouri and Pennsylvania and has a B.S. in Secondary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and an M.S.E. in Education Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Interestingly, she also has experience working in real estate transaction management and brings a level of knowledge, patience, and perspective that will prove valuable with TPH Academy being part of the Advent Health Sports Park at Bluhawk, scheduled to open its doors in time for the 2024-2025 Academy year.

TPH Academy encourages all families interested in understanding more about TPH Academy Kansas City and the TPH model, speaking with Christy, and learning about TPH Founding Family incentives to join the TPH Academy team on Wednesday, July 24th at 7:00 PM at Dave and Busters on Village West Parkway in Kansas City.
