About Christy Rutherford
A former coach, teacher, education manager, and career center assistant director, Christy Rutherford is a perfect fit for the position of Director and Head of Academics for TPH Academy Kansas City. As a hockey mom and parent of a student-athlete attending TPH Academy KC, Rutherford brings 24 years of diverse student-centered professional experience to her role. Her personal connection to TPH Academy as a parent underscores her commitment to its success.
Rutherford is certainly no stranger to preparing student-athletes for both academic and personal success, having spent the last two and a half years serving as the Education Manager for DECA, a nonprofit organization that prepares students for success in real-world business and leadership settings. In this role, Christy ensured that all DECA programs aligned with national standards and shaped the curriculum to prepare students for real-world success.
Christy’s extensive teaching experience, which spans sixteen years, two states, and multiple school systems, adds to a deep resume filled with experiences that student-athletes who attend TPH Academy Kansas City will benefit from. Coupled with two additional years of experience serving as Assistant Director of Cass Career Center in Harrisonville, MO, Christy has not only spent her career mentoring students, but she also brings the unique perspective of guiding the teachers who are tasked with impacting the students under their direction on a daily basis.
Christy, a resident of Raymore, MO, holds teaching certifications in both Missouri and Pennsylvania and has a B.S. in Secondary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and an M.S.E. in Education Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Interestingly, she also has experience working in real estate transaction management and brings a level of knowledge, patience, and perspective that will prove valuable with TPH Academy being part of the Advent Health Sports Park at Bluhawk, scheduled to open its doors in time for the 2024-2025 Academy year.
