Headshot and title of Nate Handrahan, the newest Director of TPH Academy in Columbus.

Nate Handrahan named as Director and Head of Hockey at TPH Columbus

COLUMBUS, OHTPH Academy has announced a milestone addition to its leadership ranks, naming veteran hockey mind Nate Handrahan as the new Director and Head of Hockey for TPH Columbus. This appointment marks a significant moment for the local hockey community. It brings in a leader whose career spans every major level of the sport—from youth and juniors to the highest echelons of collegiate play.

A Premier Coaching Pedigree in Columbus

Nate Handrahan arrives at TPH Academy with a coaching pedigree that is as rare as it is comprehensive. Notably, he stands as one of the few mentors in the nation to have served as an NCAA Division I coach for both Men’s and Women’s programs.

This dual-perspective background provides him with an unrivaled understanding of the student-athlete journey. Consequently, Handrahan speaks the language of recruiters and players alike. He offers a proven roadmap for those looking to ascend the competitive ladder while balancing rigorous academics.

Mastery of Player Development and Skill Training

Beyond his collegiate resume, Handrahan has long remained a student of the finer details of the sport. Through his business, Hammer Hockey, he has dedicated years to mastering the "parts" of the game. He focuses on the technical skills and tactical nuances that transform good players into elite ones.

This commitment to granular development will now serve as the engine for the TPH Columbus on-ice experience. Furthermore, his ability to connect with the modern athlete is bolstered by his current role as Head Coach of the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets 15O team. This keeps him firmly entrenched in the trends and demands of today’s competitive landscape.

A Shared Vision for TPH Columbus

For Ed Gingher, Partner for TPH Columbus, the addition of Handrahan is about more than just a resume. Rather, it is about a shared vision for the Ohio hockey market.

"Nate checks nearly every box we look for in a leader," Gingher stated. "He is a hockey coach, an administrator, and a mentor who knows exactly what it takes for players to reach the next level. More importantly, Nate is deeply entrenched in our local community. His passion for making an impact through the TPH Academy model is going to be a game-changer for our families."

Mentoring the Next Generation of Student-athletes

Handrahan’s arrival signals a new chapter for the academy in Ohio. The program will focus on supercharging development through the holistic "Study, Train, Play" model. For Handrahan, the mission is personal. Having coached across the youth, junior, and college spectrum, he sees TPH as the ultimate vehicle to mentor the next generation.

"I am incredibly passionate about the TPH mission and the opportunity to impact lives here in Columbus," said Nate Handrahan. "Having coached at the highest levels of college hockey, I know exactly what it takes for players to reach their goals. I look forward to bringing that experience to the academy and helping our student-athletes exceed their own expectations."
