Chasing the Big Leagues: How TPH Academy Develops KC’s Rising Baseball Stars
For baseball student-athletes Brady Nieman, Kaiden Porta, and Sam Porterfield, the game has always been more than just a pastime—it’s a passion that’s shaped who they are and who they hope to become. From the first time they picked up a bat at just three years old, each of them has had big goals. At TPH Academy Kansas City, they’ve found the structure, training, and support needed to turn those dreams into reality.

Kaiden Porta & Brady Nieman
Brady and Kaiden both play for the US Nationals 14U Midwest team, while Sam suits up for Prime 27:17. Each has spent years competing at high levels, gaining experience and grit. “I’ve been playing baseball since I can remember,” said Sam, who competed at the top level over the summer and now balances his high school season with academic and athletic growth at TPH. Brady and Kaiden echoed that same drive for elite performance, noting they’ve consistently played at the highest levels and are always looking for the next challenge.
For all three, the decision to join TPH Academy came down to one thing: becoming the best versions of themselves. “I chose TPH because I wanted to get better at baseball and stronger in the weight room,” said Brady. “I knew if I wanted [to reach] my goals, this is what it would take,” added Sam. Their time at TPH has already led to real, measurable improvements—whether it’s throwing harder, hitting with more power, or seeing their speed and strength increase through the Performance Zone. “TPH has helped me develop by throwing and hitting harder, as well as getting better mechanically in the field,” Brady elaborated. “I’m also stronger in the gym and faster on the field.” Kaiden agreed, sharing that he’s been building velocity on the mound and making big gains in the gym.
As TPH Academy Kansas City Baseball Coach Jason Porta puts it, “You must enjoy the process in baseball training. The process will test your patience, but when you can stay patient with the process, that is when you will achieve the most.” It’s a mindset TPH is proud to reinforce—one that’s clearly driving growth in athletes like Brady, Kaiden, and Sam.

And while the athletic development has been a game-changer, the academic flexibility has been just as impactful. With the ability to create customized schedules, the trio can train, travel, and compete without falling behind in school—a key advantage as they gear up for varsity competition, college recruitment, and long-term goals. Brady has his eyes on becoming a nationally ranked high school player and eventually getting drafted to a Major League Baseball team. Kaiden’s working toward a future at the collegiate level, and Sam is looking to play in college while studying to become a dentist.
Their stories represent exactly what TPH Academy stands for: developing high-character, high-performing individuals who are prepared to advance both in sport and in life. With support from their mentors, coaches, and peers at TPH, they’re putting in the work every day to stand out and stay ahead.
