About Shelbi Hurley
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, Shelbi Hurley has always maintained a deep-seated passion for athletics and the developmental success of children. Specifically, she discovered her calling at a young age while serving as a youth sports counselor and swim instructor for her local YMCA. Subsequently, she attended Springfield College to study Physical Education before beginning her professional career as a teacher in her hometown of Northampton. In 1999, Shelbi and her husband, Brian, relocated to the West, eventually settling in Arizona in 2006 to raise their two daughters.
After spending several years at home to raise her family, Shelbi returned to the classroom in 2014 as an elementary school teacher. During this time, she spent a decade teaching third and fourth grade while keeping sports a central pillar of her family’s daily life. Notably, both of her daughters are elite-level goalies; Grace has played competitive soccer for ten years, while Lily is an Arizona Kachina hockey player. Furthermore, because Lily is a student-athlete at TPH Phoenix, Shelbi possesses a direct and personal understanding of the unique TPH Academy model.
Ultimately, Shelbi brings decades of experience in youth education and a relentless desire to help student-athletes achieve both their athletic and academic goals. By focusing on the formation of hearts and minds, she provides a virtuous and supportive environment for every student under her care. As a result, her transition to the TPH team ensures that our athletes are guided by a mentor who truly values holistic personal growth.
